inodes are a GRRL's best friends!
by Simon Woodside
Here's a little number I recently tossed off at the academy. It's about GEEK GRRLs and their best friends. Yes, it's terrible, I know. Last updated 2006-02-19.
Sung to the tune of "Diamonds are a girl's best friends".
Punched cards can have a tangible feel. End to end they can stretch for miles. But I prefer something more modern and real that saves extensive files. A disc in the hand may be stored against bad weather, but inodes are a grrl's best friends. A disc may be grand but it won't last forever in your fireproof safe those thin film layers will erase. Media grow old and bits grow mold and cosmic rays will get them in the end. But web-hits and cache-hits these nodes won't lose their bits: inodes are a grrl's best friends. ... ext3 ... Reiser ... Talk to me Dennis Ritchie, tell me all about it! There may come a time when a grrl must have a DB (but inodes are a grrl's best friends). There may come a time when a despicable PHB thinks you're oh so nice but ditch that flat file or else no dice. He's your guy when VCs are high but beware when they start to descend. It's then that those SELECTers go back to being hecklers: inodes are a grrl's best friends. inodes... inodes.... - I don't mean FILOs - but inodes ... are a grrl's best friends!
